The Benefits of Nutritional Yeast!

Nutritional Yeast Flakes provide one of the richest natural sources of B-group vitamins and trace elements. A gluten free, vegan food with a cheesy, nutty taste, made from primary inactive yeast, without artificial additives or preservatives.

This pleasant tasting yeast is so tasty it can be consumed as is or readily dissolved in water, milk, fruit or vegetable juices. The ideal condiment to sprinkle on soups, stews, casseroles, toppings, salads and breakfast cereals to enhance the flavour.

The high levels of B vitamin content can be beneficial in improving energy levels as well as potentially being able to help the immune system recover faster from exercise!

Vegan Cheddar Cheese Recipe

Ingredients

Instructions:

  1. If using a high-speed blender, add water, cashews, bell pepper, nutritional yeast flakes, lemon juice, coconut milk, coconut oil, tapioca starch, cornstarch, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and cayenne pepper. Process until smooth and creamy.
  2. Mix cold water with agar powder in a saucepan, bring to boil on medium stirring constantly. Remove from heat and immediately add to cheese sauce.
  3. Process until smooth.
  4. Pour mixture into an oiled container and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  5. Alternatively, especially when using a regular blender, process all the ingredients including agar powder in a blender until smooth. Pour sauce into a non-stick sauce on medium heat whisking constantly until thick and bubbly. Immediately pour into an oiled container and refrigerate for an hour.
  6. Note: 1. I find the consistency of the method using the high-speed blender better. 2. This recipe is not like store bought processed vegan cheese. So it’s not as firm. Yes, it slices and shreds but not like store bought and tastes amazing!
